Hue City - Where to eat Bún Bò Huế

When a foodie travels to Hue city, the home of one of Vietnam’s greatest exports, what does one do ? Eat Bún Bò Huế of course (myself included). It would be like going to the Louvre and skipping out on the Mona Lisa.

And where does one go to eat this miracle creation of ingredients?

I was in Hue during the week staying with a good friend Mr Cong, as a proud tour guide for his home city I asked his opinion on where the best Bún Bò Huế can be found?

He answered simply, “ Hue city!”.

Not quite impressed with the answer I pushed him further for an explanation. And over a coffee he described that the subtle differences between soup flavours of the stalls and restaurants at each location is what attracts locals of Hue. Some stocks are sweeter, some have a more fish sauce flavour, some use pork and beef bones to build their stocks on, some use pineapple and tomatoes, whilst others would never dream of using.

It is these flavours that a local looks for, individual taste dictates where one will eat their daily Bún Bò Huế was his explanation.

And as most of the best places are in the city centre, he reckons any of them will blow you away!

So I was going to tell you where to go for the holy grail of Bún Bò Huế , but I think as Mr Cong said, it would be an injustice to the creators of the most holiest of soups in the city of its creation to narrow it down to just one.

So instead I will list just a few in the city centre that will take foodies taste buds to a new level of nirvana.
